Irrigation Modernisation Forum

The major suppliers of Australia’s irrigation water met in Shepparton recently to share experiences in the ‘modernisation’ of irrigation systems. The Australian Government, State Governments and the water supply companies across the nation are earnestly upgrading distribution systems to save water and improve the service to irrigators.

Video presentations from this forum are now available online.

The forum was co-hosted by the National Program for Sustainable Irrigation and Goulburn-Murray Water and was funded by the Australian Government from the Water for the Future plan.

The pace of reform in water delivery is quite amazing,’ said Guy Roth, coordinator of the National Program for Sustainable Irrigation who convened the forum.

With technologies in channel lining, improved metering and automation developing so quickly, it was important to bring people together and share experiences on what is working best and alternative ways of tackling common problems.’

The Irrigation Modernisation Forum gave everyone a chance to catch-up with who is doing what and also gave us a focus on research and development needs into the future’

Materials from the forum will soon be available on the NPSI website – www.npsi.gov.au.
