Socio-economic indicators and protocols for the national NRM M&E framework

The social and institutional foundations of NRM

Engagement is defined as the purposeful and meaningful involvement of stakeholders; including community, landholders, industry and others in NRM decision making, with the intent of achieving a shared NRM vision, ownership and NRM outcomes at the regional level. Community engagement in NRM is a core foundation and enabling activity underpinning (more)...

Indicators of Land Salinity Assessment

South Australia

This report has investigated the practical application in South Australia of the recommended indicators and protocols for evaluating change in land salinity under the National Monitoring and Evaluation Framework. Several issues can be highlighted following the application of the indicators at the Narroonda and Cooke Plains dryland trial sites. General Applicability: Depth to groundwater, and location, size and intensity of salt affected areas are the most (more)...

Presentation of information related to the indicators for land salinity (Qld)

Two pilot areas were selected for assessment of the national indicators relating to land salinity. They will be treated individually under a common set of headings. The first sub-catchment is Black Snake Creek in South East Queensland and the second is Pocket Creek in the Fitzroy basin.   The areas were selected as appropriate for this study through discussions with Department of Natural Resources and Water (NRW) staff including Soil Scientists and Land (more)...

National Indicators for Land Salinity

Victorian Component

This report provides Victoria’s response to the National Coordination Committee for Salinity information’s request for a set of recommended indicators and protocols to assist in evaluating change in land salinity. The two areas selected as subjects for the ‘Indicators for land Salinity Study’ are the two sub-catchments called Upper Gardiner Creek and Morrisons - Sheoak. These are located in the Goulburn-Broken and Corangamite catchments respectively. The (more)...

The lagoons of the outer Darwin area, NT. Milestone 2 report

Trialling a framework and indicators for wetland extent, distribution and condition at the Regional level – Milestone report 2

The project presented in this Milestone Report 2 is part of the National Wetland Indicators Project regional trials, trialing the National framework and indicators for wetland extent, distribution and condition on the lagoons in the Darwin region. The extent and distribution component of the lagoons in the Darwin region is now completed and presented as mapping based on Quickbird Imagery. Wetland condition indicators were selected on the basis of data availability for the nationally (more)...

The lagoons of the outer Darwin area, NT. Milestone 1 report

Trialling a framework and indicators for wetland extent, distribution and condition at the Regional level – Milestone report 1

The project presented in this report trials the framework and indicators for wetland extent, distribution and condition on the lagoons in the Darwin region. The extent and distribution of the lagoons in the Darwin region is presented as mapping based on Quickbird Imagery. As the mapping process took more time than anticipated, the final mapping of all lagoons in the study area will be presented in the Final Milestone Report. This report presents the extent and distribution of 31 (more)...

Indicator protocols: total dissolved solids + flow OR electrical conductivity + flow

Salinity is a primary water quality indicator as the presence of high concentrations of dissolved salts damages riverine ecosystems and limits the usefulness of water for stock watering and irrigated crops thus lowering agricultural productivity. Even low salt concentrations can adversely affect vegetation (both native and non-native).
